Love in the {City of London}

There’s nothing quite like London in the summer! Intense blue skies, bright sunshine reflecting off glass skyscrapers, bright flowers in full bloom at the local markets, a jug of Pimm’s around every street corner and a cluster of snap-happy tourists waiting to capture their memories forever. Bright red phone booths against the muted backdrop of ancient Victorian architecture, singers crooning the classics at tube stations and a row of shiny black cabs waiting patiently outside to transport you to your next big adventure.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit London a few times while I was growing up, and while it has always been a place I hold close to my heart, something changed this time to make it even more special – a sparkly little accessory on my ring finger! James popped the question on London’s iconic Millennium Bridge on a warm summer night after having spent the day exploring Notting Hill and Portobello Road, then filling up on the best Greek food I’ve ever tasted.
The next day, we celebrated by visiting one of my favourite places in the world, Covent Garden, where we treated ourselves to salted caramel macarons at Ladurée and stocked up on tourist-y trinkets for friends and family. We then made our way to Camden Town to see what the fuss was all about it’s famous market, ending the day with a walk around The London Eye and a drink at a little pub not too far away.
We spent our last day sampling the many culinary delights at Borough Market and walking around Tower Bridge, stopping for a cheeky little peek at the Tower Of London. And then, we took things up a notch (literally!) by making our way to the top of The Shard, Europe’s tallest building, where we saw London in all her breathtaking glory, from 800ft above the ground!
Short and most definitely sweet, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect trip or a more handsome travel companion! Stay tuned for posts on our market experiences, food and other vacation highlights coming up over the next couple of weeks.
{P.S: I badly wanted a picture of a red London bus for my photo diary, but just couldn’t seem to take one that wasn’t blurry. The one you see in this post is from The London Travel Guide}
