They say fashion and comfort go hand in hand. While that’s not normally a rule I choose to play by, when you spend all day toting around a camera and iPad at fashion week, it’s a little hard to manage in sky-high stilettos and pencil skirts.
Which is why every girl needs a few closet staples to help her look at the top of her game. You may choose to stick to traditional white shirts and little black dresses, but my basics are a little more unconventional.
Printed trousers
What better way to scream ‘style’ than some avant garde pants? Stock your closet with these and you’ll never have to worry about five minute dressing for spontaneous plans.
Statement bag
Sure, a basic black bag is great, but these babies up the ante on any outfit, whether plain or perfectly planned. Go as crazy as you like, a fun accessory is a great conversation starter.
Blazers
In case you haven’t noticed already, I’m a bit of an addict. I have them in every colour imaginable and am always on the quest for more. A well-fitted jacket instantly pulls together any look and makes it seem like you made a little extra effort.
Bright shirts
A shirt or tank in a bright, solid hue adds a dash of fun to even the dullest look. Layer them over or under anything, colour block or let them steal the spotlight. These are your closet chameleons.
Studded loafer
My all-time favourite shoe this season, the studded loafer has rapidly replaced the black ballet flat and has made it’s way to the top of the shoe charts worldwide. Invest in a pair to add some edge to a daytime outfit or replace your heels on a night out.
What are your closet staples? Tell me about them in the comments section.
Bisou bisou,
