beauty in review : garnier bb cream

Call me a skeptic, but anything that claims to be a ‘miracle skin perfector’ sets my alarm bells ringing. Doesn’t it sound a little too easy? I mean, if celebrities spend unfathomable amounts of money on dermatologists and skin care products, the answer to ‘instantly perfect skin’ couldn’t just be a drugstore away, could it?
I put Garnier’s new BB Cream to the test and here is my non-biased, real-girl review.
What is a bb cream, anyway?
‘BB’ stands for beauty balm. A BB cream is a product that is an all-in-one moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock.
Fun fact : BB creams are heavily endorsed by Korean celebrities and is often referred to as the secret of their beauty!
Garnier’s promise : Fairer skin, healthy glow, blurs lines and imperfections, evens skin tone, 8hr moisturization
Trial time : 1 week
Price : Rs. 199 (large), Rs.99 (small)
Smell : Fresh
Texture : Lightweight
Coverage : Very light. Even though it does even out your skin to an extent, you may still have to go over under eye circles and blemishes with a concealer.
Hydration : If you live in a city which is likely to get cold or if your skin gets dry easily, this isn’t the product for you. It isn’t particularly hydrating, so skin tends to feel tight during the course of the day.
Photography : Some people say the best way to check a foundation shade is in natural light. I say it’s with a camera. Nothing looks as terrible as a pasty white face in photographs, and I’m glad to say this passed the test with flying colours!
Upside : Zero stickiness! Leaves your skin looking, feeling and smelling fresh.
Downside : Sadly, it doesn’t come in shades so this won’t work for you if you have a dusky complexion.
Alternative : Although it costs next to nothing, you could just mix a drop of your regular foundation shade with your daily moisturizer for a more customized solution.
Verdict : Since my skin fits the type and shade requirement of the cream, (combination, fair / wheatish), the Garnier BB cream is my favourite new addition to my spring / summer beauty bag.
Have you tried the product? I’d love to hear what you think in the comments section.
